DAVE CAROLAN may not be a household name but he is one of an ever-growing number of Irish specialists who are making their mark in English football. Unlike many Irishmen in the game across the water, he did not head over as a football player but instead it was in rugby where he made his breakthrough. VERNON McALLORUM became the third winner of the FAI Noel O’Reilly Coach of the Year award at the FAI AGM in Ennis last summer. The 43-year-old Dubliner was recognised for his outstanding work with Dunboyne AFC at both senior and schoolboy level.

DAVE CONNELL is manager of the Republic of Ireland Under-19 Women’s team, who are currently ranked seventh in Europe.

Connell’s side contains many of the players that won a silver medal at the UEFA Under-17 Championships under Noel King in 2010 and they topped their opening group in this year’s Under-19 campaign with victories over Portugal, Israel and Hungary.
